The bonus levels are simply culled from Hen Mazolski's Portal: The Flash Version MapPack with no major enhancements, Valve marketing VP Doug Lombardi told former Shacknews editor Chris Remo.
Bringing the levels from the fan-made Flash version of Portal to the actual game, the map pack was released as a free download for the PC edition earlier this year.
Lombardi further clarified that the levels will not include any new story elements or commentary from GLaDOS.
Billed as an Xbox 360 exclusive, Portal: Still Alive is slated to hit Xbox Live Marketplace later this year.
- Ok well there's an easy way to solve all this confusion - release the map pack over steam as an official bonus pack. That way everyone knows what the deal is and can stop asking.
- Yeah. I don't understand why PC game makers don't adopt this method more often. It worked very well with Unreal Tournament.
Just select the best that the community has to offer and release them as an official map pack. People are happy because more will play those custom maps and it encourages the community to make more maps.- they kinda did this with TF2 and sk's map.
- Yes well what do they have to lose? The map pack is already free, just endorse it already so PC gamers can stop thinking they've been shafted when clearly they haven't. It's just a miscommunication thats easily solveable.
- I haven't installed the map pack but is it a deal where you have to run the maps via a console command? If so, couldn't someone just make a Portal 'mod' that loads from the Steam menu and just name it 'Portal: Still Alive' ?
- Portal has a built-in custom map loader.
- Why do they need to do that? It's in their best interest to sell as many copies on Live Arcade as possible. If they officially released it on the PC they might lose a couple sales to people who already have Portal but don't know about these maps. Shady? Yes, of course it is, but I suspect a lot of the reason why Microsoft finally agreed to put Portal on XBLA is that it includes content that hasn't been seen before (by most people). Microsoft are a bunch of greedy fucks and if they heard that Valve released this map pack officially on the PC (at least before it comes out on XBLA) then they would be pretty pissed at Valve. Don't like it? The best thing to do is to not buy it, that would show both Valve and Microsoft that you don't buy content you think should be released 'officially' for free. Which makes no sense anyway, because it's already out for free. Go download it, if it's the same maps it's well worth the effort and it's easy as shit to install.
Portal: Still Alive was announced during E3 last week. It bundles the original Portal with some 'additional content', and it's due for release on XBLA. And ever since, PC owners have been complaining, wondering why 360 owners are getting new stuff while they're not. Well, according to former Shacknews boss Chris Remo, the 'additional content' isn't necessarily 'new content', as he says the bonus maps are those found in Portal: The Flash Version MapPack. Which PC owners can already get. For free. What size buderus boiler do i need.
Portal Still Alive Will Include New Puzzles, But No New Plot
Speaking with Valve's Doug Lombardi earlier this week at E3, we got onto the topic of the…

Portal: Still Alive is an Xbox 360 Live Arcade exclusive edition of Portal released on October 22, 2008. It features the original game, with various new levels and 9 new Achievements.
The additional content was modified from and based on the levels from the Portal: The Flash Version MapPack created by We Create Stuff[1] and contains no additional story-related levels. There was a slight change in the campaign, which included avoiding being crushed whilst going through a series of engines.
Portal: Still Alive has not yet been released on PC, although an unofficial mod is available which includes ported versions of all the bonus chambers.
Achievements[edit]
Sins of a solar empire carrier. The game has 12 Achievements worth 200 Gamerscore points. All descriptions are official; only capitalization has been changed when needed for consistency throughout the wiki.
Achievement | Official description | Score | Test Chamber | How-to |
---|---|---|---|---|
Go for the Gold | Win a gold medal on a challenge map. | 15G | Any challenge chamber | Self-explanatory. |
Out of the Blue | Once you have control of both portals, only enter the orange portal. | 25G | Cumulative | Once the full portal gun is obtained, the player must only enter through orange portals. |
Rat's Tale | Find all the Rat Man dens. | 15G | Chambers 16, 17, 18, 19 | Find all behind-the-scenes rooms. |
Is Anyone There? | Complete the game without ever taking a bullet. | 20G | Cumulative | The player needs to avoid getting shot by turrets throughout the game. |
Saw That One Coming | Cause a Rocket Sentry to destroy its own rocket when the rocket has been redirected back towards it. | 5G | Test Chamber 19 | The player needs to open a portal ahead and behind the Rocket Turret and then align the laser at the portal. |
The Camera Adds 10 Pounds | Knock a turret over with a Security Camera. | 10G | Test Chamber 16 | First, the player must shoot a portal at a camera ('vital testing apparatus'); it will fall on the floor. Then he must put a portal above the turret sentry and another below the camera. The camera will fall on the turret knocking it over. |
Like a Rat | Trap yourself in a test chamber so that GLaDOS has to help you continue. | 20G | Test Chamber 04, Test Chamber 11, Test Chamber 15, Test Chamber 17 | Test Chamber 04: In the beginning, lock the door with 2 cameras and the cube. GLaDOS will open the door. Test Chamber 11: After getting the fully-powered portal gun, the player needs to enter the room with the energy ball launcher. Fire both portals inside the room, and let the door close. Test Chamber 13: The player needs to get both cubes into the small starting room, and then move into the main chamber and place both portals in there. Test Chamber 15: Once the player reaches the room with the slow moving lifts and the energy pellet, hit both buttons to reveal the ball receiver and travel there. The doors will close automatically. Test Chamber 17: After the player places the companion cube on the switch closest to the incinerator, he needs to go back in the level and find a few cameras. Then he brings them back to the small room with the switch that activates the incinerator and carefully place them inside the doors. Remove the cube from the switch, and the cameras should keep the door propped open. (He should try again if the cameras fall out). If he squeezes through the opening of the doors with the cube and remove the cameras while he is still inside, the doors will close, locking the player in until GLaDOS opens them. |
A Feeling Like Floating | Dissolve a turret. | 5G | Test Chamber 16 | The player needs to take a turret, especially the last one, through the Material Emancipation Grill before the elevator. |
Tests Like Chicken | Find the chicken's test results. | 15G | Offices after escape | The player needs to find a clipboard with a red 'Failed' stamp on it; when looked at closely, an icon on the clipboard features the chicken. |
Cupcake | Beat 5 advanced chambers | 10G | Any 5 advanced chambers | Self-explanatory. |
Fruitcake | Beat 10 advanced chambers | 25G | Any 10 advanced chambers | Self-explanatory. |
Vanilla Crazy Cake | Beat all advanced chambers | 35G | All advanced chambers | Self-explanatory. |

GlaDOS, Bound and Gagged[edit]
Although Portal developers have claimed that GLaDOS was originally designed to resemble the famous female figure of Botticelli's 'Rise of Venus,' this design was ditched. From some angles GLaDOS appears to be a bound and gagged female figure. Kinky.
Xbox Live Gamer Picture[edit]
In Test Chamber 17, destroy your Weighted Companion Cube to unlock a gamer pic. Defeat the final boss and beat the game to unlock another one.
